Retired Las Vegas police sergeant Kenneth Rios (Day 2 / Witness 8) testified regarding his direct interaction with Orlando Anderson shortly after the MGM Grand fight on September 7, 1996. While reviewing casino surveillance footage in court, Rios identified himself approaching Anderson, who was wearing a Dan Marino jersey and was considered the victim of the beatdown. Rios testified that Anderson refused medical attention, claimed he was jumped by unknown individuals, and declined to file a police report, leading officers to release him. It was only later that night, after learning of Tupac Shakur’s shooting, that Rios was instructed to write an official police report regarding his encounter with Anderson. Under cross-examination, Rios acknowledged that he could not recall where he originally wrote the report or the exact circumstances surrounding its creation.
