Competitors from all over the globe are being forced to train for another year now that the Olympic games have been moved to 2021 due to the pandemic. While some athletes are taking it pretty hard, others have a positive outlook and even a good sense of humor about it.
Simone Biles was expected to win several gold medals for gymnastics in the 2020 summer games. She said she cried when she found out they were postponed. The professional swimmer Ryan Lochte couldn’t wait to prove himself after his difficult past in his sport. But he supports everyone staying safe and healthy. Justin Gatlin and Jacob Riley hope to be fully ready to compete in 2021. Kate Courtney said that while the games are postponed, her dreams are not canceled. Elinor Barker was devastated when she heard the news. Alec Yoder is looking at this as an opportunity to heal and improve his skill level. Dina Asher-Smith is ready to bring the same heat to the new dates. Lolo Jones posted some jokes about it on Twitter for her fans, showing that she’s not taking things too seriously. Other competitors, like Delaney Spaulding, Stanislas Wawrinka, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Angelina Meinikova and Dafne Schippers are showing resilience in the face of this adversity. While Gesa Krause is still in shock about the delay, Elia Viviani, Adam Gemili, and Katie Ledecky are staying hopeful and looking toward the 2021 Tokyo Games.
