Kanye West announced via twitter this week that he plans to run in the 2020 US presidential election. This announcement was met with support, criticism, and even skepticism. He has already seen support from the Kardashians, and billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This isn’t the first time Kanye has announced that he would run for president. At the VMAs in 2015 he announced a 2020 candidacy. Again in 2018 he hinted at the possibility of a 2024 run. But now, so close to elections, voters are taking his claims seriously.
Kanye was also famously a supporter of the current president’s office and has spoken with the POTUS to discuss policy and reform on education of mental health and the criminal justice system. Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian has also been involved with the political policies in her advocacy for criminal justice and reform of mass incarceration in the US.
The couple brings with them multi-million dollar empires and a list of powerful contacts both in the political world and in Hollywood. Although some are still unsure of what a world looks like with Kanye in the oval office, the couple stand a fairly good chance of winning the upcoming election.
