Young Ant Jefe was in court on June 17 along with Johnnie Gray for a scheduled preliminary hearing, which was postponed to July.
Major updates are coming out of Division 41 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center (CCB) in downtown Los Angeles regarding the Young Ant Jefe and Johnny Gray case. While many expected the scheduled preliminary hearing to move forward, a major clash between legal strategies has officially put the proceedings on hold.
Johnny Gray’s attorney, Armando Rodriguez, requested a continuance because the prosecution has yet to turn over all necessary discovery material. Johnny Gray explicitly objected to the delay, refusing to waive time and demanding to go to trial ASAP. However, the judge granted the continuance over his objections. Young Ant Jefe’s attorney, Lloyd Fletcher, stated he already has his discovery, revealing that the two defense teams are clearly not aligned or working together.
Co-defendant Erving Theus has officially had all charges against him dismissed and has been released from custody despite a previous $1 million bail. Prosecutor Hilary Harris (bar class of 2021) faces off against seasoned defense veterans Rodriguez (1994) and Fletcher (1995). While the defense holds decades of experience, Harris has the full, powerful backing of the LA District Attorney’s office.
