Is your tiktok page filled with D’Amelio look alikes doing the same dance to the same song wearing the same outfit, over and over again? Just like these stars, you may be stuck in “Straight”, or mainstream, tiktok. The new side of tiktok known as “Elite” is rebelling against overused audio and copycat dances, tiktokers on Elite value a more creative and artistic aesthetic.
On Elite tiktok you’ll find things like horror videos, special effects makeup, and people showcasing their more individualistic personalities and quirky sides. There are also niche communities where users are able to be creative in different ways. The Retail tiktok community poses as faux brand accounts, often posing as Purell, Dasani Water, Walmart, and popular take-out restaurants. There are also accounts play-acting as food products like Takis and Cheetos. The creators are rebelling against the verified side of tiktok where content doesn’t feature much originality.
Massive tiktok stars like Bryce Hall, Addison Rae, and Avani Gregg may be at the top of the app, but haven’t been able to break into the Elite side. These stars embody the aspects of the app that the Elite or “Alt” side wants to get away from. With their uniform-like outfits of jeans and hoodies and reused music, the members of Hype and Sway house don’t stand a chance of being accepted into Elite.
Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, however, may already be accepted into both “Straight” and “Elite”. The sisters are known for their creativity and high-quality use of the app’s editing features. They also have taken a step back from collaborating professionally with other verified users and have branched into their own endeavours. Dixie has even released a single “Be Happy” which Charli has already used on her page. These sisters may be able to garner fans from mainstream, alt, and even Deeptok.
