In this clip, Stephanie Mills talked about her upbringing in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, and how she got an early start in entertainment by performing at the Apollo and on Broadway. She also recalled not wanting to audition for The Wiz out of fear of rejection but eventually landed the role as a 17-year-old. According to Stephanie, she initially ended up landing the leading role as Dorothy but explained the reason why she wasn’t cast as Dorothy in the live-action version was because Diana Ross wanted the role.
