A woman in Forest, Mississippi, filmed as she cracked open an unusually large egg laid by one of her chickens.
Footage shows the big reveal as the large egg is cracked only to reveal another egg – something that has a chance of 1 in 25 million of happening.
The filmer told Newsflare: “I recorded cracking this egg because I knew something was off. It wasnt a normal-sized chicken egg, and when I picked it up, it felt extra heavy, like, heavier than a double-yolk situation. When I cracked it open, I found a second fully formed egg inside, along with a yolk. Naturally, I cracked that egg too and inside was just one yolk.
“This phenomenon is called counter-peristalsis contraction. Its rare and usually caused by stress in the hen. Basically, a fully formed egg is supposed to be laid, but instead it reverses course, goes back up the oviduct, and another egg forms around it. An egg inside an egg. Wild.
“According to Google (lol), this happens in about 1 in 25 million eggs. I dont know how exact that number is, but I do know Ive never seen anything like it before and probably never will again!”
