Paula Jai Parker recently sat down with VladTV for an in-depth interview about her life and career. Parker started out by covering her childhood in Cleveland, including going to an all-white school and dating hood guys. She went on to speak about going to Howard and being taught by some of the greats in Hollywood, including Denzel Washington.
A large part of the interview was spent discussing her role as Ice Cube’s girlfriend Joi in Friday, which she said she got because Cube liked her short shorts in her audition. Parker also addressed Joi’s scene where she’s questioning Ice Cube about cheating while having another man laying in her bed. Paula also spoke about meeting Diddy, which she says was back when he was getting beat up, and she addressed her character in Hustle and Flow being villainized.
