Paolo Banchero Had the WORST Pull-Up Shooting in the NBA… Then THIS Happened
Paolo Banchero went from a 31.5% EFG on pull-up jumpers (the worst in the entire NBA) and a 116 defensive rating through the first 43 games of the season to averaging 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists on 44/44/92 shooting splits since the All-Star break. His defensive rating has dropped nearly 10 points. His drives have jumped from 12.6 to 16.3 per game.
With Franz Wagner sidelined indefinitely with a high ankle sprain and the Orlando Magic fighting for playoff positioning at 31-26, Banchero has stepped up as THE franchise player — highlighted by his 36-10-6 performance and game-winning assist to Desmond Bane against the Lakers.
But is this a permanent transformation or just another post-All-Star mirage? Paolo did the same thing last year, averaging 29 PPG after the break. At just 23 years old, the upside is massive — but the sample size is tiny.
