John Lewis’ memorial service in Troy, Alabama

Civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis’ first memorial service is taking place in Troy, Alabama on Saturday (July 25). Celebrating “the boy from Troy,” it is one of several services where supporters of the late politician will be able to pay their final respects. It is set in the Trojan Arena at Troy University.

Lewis’ passing touched millions of people across the country. Previously serving as the youngest speaker at the March on Washington and being an activist who survived Bloody Sunday, he dedicated his entire life fighting for equal opportunity and rights for Black people. RIP, John Lewis.
