Mayor of Inglewood James Butts was accused of groping a minor at an event (Straight Politicking Episode 108) where a huge commotion occurred. The accusations that he inappropriately touched a high school student while taking a photo during a city event comes just weeks before an election. Local community activists and political opponents called for his immediate resignation and urged local law enforcement to launch an independent investigation into the incident.
Mayor Butts held a press conference to address the allegations directly. He forcefully denied all accusations, calling them “baseless, unsourced, and completely false” and emphasizing that no official police report or formal complaint had been filed. Butts characterized the narrative as a politically motivated smear campaign orchestrated by rivals amid an election season. He further declared that his legal team had issued cease-and-desist demands to several of his prominent critics. Vowing to hold his vocal opponents accountable for slander and defamation, the mayor maintained his innocence throughout the address before exiting without taking questions.
