How Music Videos Became a Substitute for Fashion Shows

Are music videos really the new fashion show runways?

When runway shows became few and far between due to the pandemic in 2020, designers, brands, and fashion houses had to find a new way to promote their pieces and collections. So, why not an old way!?

Music videos have always been a way for musicians and singers to bring life to their songs while also giving fans an inside look at the inspiration and vibe of the music. Music videos also have a long history of using fashion as a way to create a visual story!

Over the past year, many singers and pop stars have worked in collaboration with fashion brands both big and small to create new platforms to start trends! Taylor Swift made cardigans a thing while Harry Styles rocked the Hawaiian shirt trend.

Lizzo worked with designers to make fashions more inclusive of plus-sizes while Beyonce and Cardi B brought animal print to the forefront of fashion. Selena Gomez used her platform to showcase her cultural heritage and rocked floral designs by Rodarte.

It’s all about that music video fashion!

Even Miley Cyrus rocked some post-breakup fits, channelling rockers Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks while also being super high-fashion in edgy Chanel pieces.
