Godfrey offered a charitable interpretation of Akon’s remarks and explained what he thought Akon was saying and how he should’ve phrased it. Godfrey also gave some insight into the longstanding tension between Africans and African Americans as someone born and raised in the U.S. but ethnically Nigerian.
