Flash flood knocks over cyclist as deluge swamps road in the Philippines

A flash flood knocked over a cyclist and several motorbikes as a deluge swamped a road in the Philippines.

Monsoon rains had hit Valenzuela City in the Metro Manila region, submerging a road in several inches of water on September 23.

Footage shows how the surging floodwater knocked over a struggling biker carrying his two-wheeler across a street.

The powerful ripples made waves as they slammed onto shop walls, toppling even more motorcycles like dominoes.

Crowds of locals were seen taking shelter under buildings while waiting for the water to recede.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
