A boat carving its way through an icy Amsterdam canal made an extremely satisfying noise as the layer of ice gradually cracked.
The filmer said: “A boat slicing through a frozen Amsterdam canal. The morning air is sharp and cold enough to sting your face, and the city feels hushed under a blanket of grey winter light.
“You can hear the ice groan before it shatters, each crack echoing between the tall canal houses. Slowly, the boat carves its path, pushing sheets of frozen water aside like broken glass. Amsterdam feels still except for this one vessel forcing winter to make way.”
