Before Kanye West put Skepta and grime artists alike on the stage at the Brits, UK legend Dizzee Rascal was chopping it up with the likes of Pharrell, Bun B, Justin Timberlake and Calvin Harris to bring grime to American ears. With massive hits such as “I Love You” and “Dance With Me,” Rascal has toured the U.S. multiple times and linked with legends.
Joining the Sway in the Morning crew, we hear Rascal outline the history of grime from its start on Pirate Radio and roots in drum and bass and UK garage music. Bringing people from the different boroughs in London together, grime music has gone a long way from people like Rascal cutting records for club DJ’s just to be heard.
