Dallas Austin sat down with VladTV to talk about his beginnings and accomplishments. Austin noted that he was born in Georgia, and started picking up music early because his mom and dad had a club that popular artists performed at. Austin also noted that he used to be on the road with James Brown and the JBs because his stepdad used to play in the group.
Dallas Austin noted that he learned how to play keys by ear from playing alongside recordings of Prince and George Clinton. He also played other instruments that he learned by ear like the bass guitar, drums, and more.
In this clip, Dallas Austin opened up about the rough conditions he grew up in after his father passed away. He spoke about his brothers selling cocaine and robbing banks but said that music kept him on the straight and narrow.
