Speaking with Bosschick Raine of HipHopIsReal, Chess calls Tay Roc arguably the face of battle rap and Loaded Lux arguably the greatest—and says a battle between them would not need fake tension, personal issues or a long promotional buildup. The names and legacies alone would make it important.
Chess also reacts to the conversations surrounding Tsu Surf vs Murda Mook and Hitman Holla vs Loaded Lux. While he agrees those are two of the most important battles currently being discussed, he pushes back against the idea that the future of battle rap should be narrowed down to only two matchups.
The conversation then gets personal as Chess addresses the criticism, expectations and trust issues that have followed him throughout his career. Chess says fans often focus on one flawed moment while overlooking five great performances—and reminds the culture of the classic battles he created against Eazy The Block Captain, Tay Roc, Nu Jerzey Twork, Ave and other elite opponents.
Chess believes he has repeatedly reached the highest level of battle rap and says he helped set the standard for what a great battle is supposed to look like.
