Did you know that a police officer can get fired from one department for filing a false police report to out of policy police shooting, then get re-hired in another department. Most States in the United States have laws that revoke an officer’s certification, preventing her from getting re-hired. For example, in the State of Washington, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission opens its own examination of why the officer was fired or forced to resign and determine whether they should be allowed to work again. Similar systems exist to varying degrees in most states but in California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York have no authority to take away an officer’s license or certification. Senate Bill 731 in California will change that in California, and will not allow fired cops to get hired again elsewhere.
