Malcolm Barrett stopped by HOT 97 to talk to Nessa about season two of “Average Joe,” which just wrapped on Paramount+. He talked about filming the season in South Africa, working with Deon Cole and how playing Leon made him think differently about becoming a father. Malcolm also shared the story of turning down a six-figure opportunity to become the face of Popeyes, why he’s willing to walk away from money and roles, and how knowing his worth has impacted his career.
Malcolm also opened up about the current state of Hollywood, why he believes there are fewer opportunities for working actors and how relationships have helped him survive more than 20 years in the industry. He talked about returning to stand-up, his love of rapping, repeatedly meeting Dave Chappelle — who never remembers him — and why Eddie Murphy is his Brooklyn “North Star.” Plus, he shared his thoughts on LeBron James, celebrated the Knicks and ended the conversation with a special moment with his mom.
Watch season two of “Average Joe” now on Paramount+ and watch Malcolm Barrett’s full interview with Nessa on HOT 97.
