On Saturday at a USA Basketball event, Durant told ESPN’s Ben Golliver that the last time three 20-point scorers were put on one team it was called unfair, and that was his Warriors team, while the Sixers now have four 25-point scorers. On Monday he doubled down in an Instagram comment, arguing the 2026-27 Sixers are better on paper than the 2016-17 Warriors. Klay Thompson answered on his story. The 76ers went 45-37 last season and were swept by the eventual champion New York Knicks in the second round. They acquired Jaylen Brown from Boston on July 2 for Paul George and four picks, then signed LeBron James on July 24 to a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option.
The Warriors team Durant joined in 2016 had gone 73-9 with a unanimous MVP in Stephen Curry.
