The perception of what makes a “good” first week for a new album has changed drastically in the recent years. Long gone are the days of superstars selling over a million units in the first week – nowadays, even A-List artists are unlikely to break 300,000, and only the generation’s most successful superstars will see numbers in the half-million range. In some cases though, we’ll see first week sales that are super unexpected and disappointing – with some artists even failing to break 500 sales and basically completely flopping.
