Straight Politicking Episode 78 (part 2), hosted by Munchie B & Alex Alonso with guest Ricky Roy discuss a police officer Torrence from the City of Sanger that was found guilty of sexual assault. The City has approved a $5.25 million settlement with a victim of a former Sanger Police officer who repeatedly assaulted women over a six-year period. Attorney Nicholas Wagner, representing several victims, explains that Officer Torrance targeted women between the ages of 29 and 67 over a six-year period, often coercing them into his squad car while on duty [02:02]. In federal court, a jury found the former officer guilty of assaulting four women, though as many as nine victims have come forward with similar allegations dating back to 2016 [00:35]. As a result of these “serious betrayals of public trust,” Torrance was sentenced to five consecutive life terms, totaling approximately 240 years in prison [02:34]. While the settlement provides a sense of acknowledgement from the city, Wagner notes that his clients continue to suffer from the trauma of the abuse they endured [01:16].
