Hundreds of fans of rap artist Nipsey Hussle gathered to mourn his death on Monday, a day after he was fatally shot outside his clothing shop in Los Angeles.

Fans lit candles and laid down flowers and messages to remember the musician in front of his ‘The Marathon’ clothing shop in LA’s Hyde Park neighbourhood.

Residents from the local community expressed their sadness about the loss of someone who one woman referred to as a “legend,” while another local described the pain of losing him as akin to “losing a family member”.

At least 10 people were reportedly injured at the memorial later in the evening, when a stampede broke out in the crowd as people attempted to flee the area, with some reports indicating that this may have been caused by false reports of gunshots. Local police have however stated that no shots were fired and have said that most of the injuries at the scene were due to trampling.

Hussle, who was born Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was shot multiple times in the face and chest on March 31 and although the scene was reportedly captured by a security camera, a suspect has yet to be arrested. Two other people were wounded in the shooting, with one being hospitalised in a stable condition and the other only sustaining a superficial injury.
